Our Story

The Beaded Llama is the endeavor of Susan Stevenson who always dreamed of using her artisan skills to share her love of unique and beautiful materials. In transitioning from a 30 year law career as a paralegal, creativity was knocking. Diving into her stash beads collected over 25 years, Susan brushed off her jewelry making skills to bring her artisan business back to life and follow the message she was given of a white alpaca.

May you feel the blessings and intentions when using and wearing The Beaded Llama’s designs and knowing that each piece is meticulously hand-crafted, while feeling at peace about your impact supporting a conscientious small business and women in India and Nepal.  All of our products have been cleansed with Palo Santo and charged with prayers for peace in your life and in the world. Namaste

MISSION

Our mission is to help share meditation and mindfulness as a way of life. Through Mother Nature’s gifts, meditation, mindfulness, light, healing and positive energy our inner world can be enhanced through meaningful malas, gemstones and jewelry.  Since ancient times gemstones and crystals have been worn and used by healers, rulers and mystics because of long held beliefs that they possess healing energies and powers. Through the centuries, the power of gemstones and crystals has been proven becoming well-known for the energies they bring to our lives and their unique characteristics and powers that can improve our abilities to face different situations.

OUR NAME

The name Beaded Llama was inspired by the image of a white alpaca while its founder was in a deep dream state.   Upon inquiry into the image, the founder learned that the appearance of a white alpaca in dream or meditation states represents luck, trust, hard work, and faith to accomplishing one’s dreams.  Llamas and alpacas are symbols of spiritual protection for Native Americans and they believe these animals possess special, protective and magical powers.

The founder has been a follower of the Tibetan Buddhist teachings of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for many years.  The founder chose to combine the dream symbol of a llama with the spiritual teachings of the Dalai Lama and The Beaded Llama was borne.

HOW IT'S MADE MATTERS

In a world where many artisan goods are produced in factories and peddled by mass marketing campaigns, The Beaded Llama’s products are created in hopes of connecting you to something truly authentic, one-of-a-kind and genuine.  All of our products are handmade by its founder in her home studio.  We’re deeply devoted to quality in the products we make, the quality of customer service and experience we aim to provide.

ETHICALLY SOURCED & FAIR TRADE:

RECYCLED SARI-SILK:   Recycled Sari Silk Ribbon is made from loose ends of saris collected from silk mills in India and Nepal.  The loose ends are torn into strips and sewn, tied or heat bonded together to make beautiful and colorful ribbons.   No two sari ribbons will ever be the same and each one is unique and handmade.   The popularity of recycled sari silk ribbon has gone beyond India and Nepal and has created an industry empowering and primarily benefiting women. The ribbon is completely made of recycled sari material from recycled clothing. Women in rural villages produce these unique and beautiful ribbons.   This work provides additional income to support and improve their family earnings.  Every time a purchase of recycle silk sari ribbon is made, we are doing our share to help Indian and Nepali women that work so hard to create this exquisite ribbon art to support their family.

RECYCLED METALS:  The Beaded Llama sources metals from Rio Grande because it sells recycled silver gold.    Rio Grande is a member of the Responsible Jewelry Counsel (“RJC”) and undergoes regular third-party audits that certifies Rio Grande’s practices, along with those of its suppliers, to meet RJC’s high level of standards.  Rio Grande is focused on supporting the sustainability of these materials, and helping to ensure it far in the future.   These practices help in decrease the need for additional mining.

All of our packaging is eco-friendly, made from recycled materials and has been consciously minimized.
